On Monday January 27th at 5.45 pm, the Embassy of Italy in London promotes a conference about the role of finance in Italy and UK in securing a more prosperous and sustainable future. The event will host international speakers, as Mario Calderini – Politecnico di Milano – and Marco Gerevini – Fondazione Housing Sociale and Fondazione Social Venture Giordano Dell’Amore.

Impact investing is an emerging paradigm that posits the alignment of financial returns with the generation of positive social and environmental outcomes. Fostered by the British government for two decades now, it has grown impressively all over the world following the global financial crisis and consequential social challenges.
At the dawn of the years 2020s, with local and global challenges such as poverty, inequality and climate change, impact investing represents a key component of a strategy that aligns public and private interests and drives the growth of both private wealth and shared prosperity. With the support of leading experts in the field, this event wants to explore recent impact investing market developments and trends both in Italy and in the UK.

Speakers Bio
Mario Calderini
Mario Calderini, a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Manchester, is full Professor at Politecnico di Milano, School of Management, where he teaches Social Innovation. He is the Director of Alta Scuola Politecnica and Executive Vice President of Fondazione Politecnico. He is the Director of Tiresia, the Politecnico di Milano School of Management’s Research Centre for Impact Finance and Innovation. He has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Minister of University Research and Innovation and a Government’s Sherpa for the G7 Italian Presidency 2017. His numerous publications in highly ranked international journals cover several topics in the field of innovation and social impact finance. He has been a member of the G8 Task Force for Social Impact Investment, he chaired the Italian Advisory Board on Social Impact Finance, he is the President of the Scientific Committee of the Social Impact Agenda for Italy Association (Italy’s NAB). He sits in the Italian Government’s Advisory Group on Social Entrepreneurship and Impact Measurement and he contributed to promote the social innovation agenda in Italy, launching the sector’s first public consultation. He has been part of the Government’s Advisory Group that drafted the new law on social entrepreneurship. He is currently a member of the Government’s Task Force on Social Impact Investment. He is the President of the Advisory Board for Research and Innovation Strategy of the Lombardy Region Government. He sits in the Advisory Board of Unicredit and he is a member of the Board of Directors of Nesta Italy.
Victoria Quinlan
Victoria Quinlan is a Managing Director at Lendlease and Head of the Investment Management business in Europe. Based in London, Victoria is responsible for driving the strategic direction and growth of Lendlease’s European Investment Management activities. Victoria has held numerous positions both in the UK and Australia and prior to Victoria’s current role, she was European Chief Operating Officer and European CFO. Victoria has significant experience in real estate investment, funds management, business operations, finance and capital markets transactions.
Jamie Broderick
Jamie is a Director of the newly launched Impact Investing Institute, an independent, non-profit UK organisation that aims to accelerate the growth and improve the effectiveness of the impact investing market. Before working with the Institute, Jamie was head of UBS Wealth Management in the UK and Jersey. Jamie joined UBS after nineteen years at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, latterly as Chief Executive of its European operations. He joined J.P. Morgan in New York in 1993 and moved to London in 1996. He started his career in financial services at Wellington Management Company, an independent asset management partnership in Boston. He studied Arabic Linguistics and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard College. He continued those studies in a Ph.D. program at the University of Chicago.
Marco Gerevini
Marco Gerevini is currently the Managing Director of Fondazione Housing Sociale, a private and non profit entity working for the purposes of public and social interest. The foundation was created in 2004 to develop the Social Housing Programme, initially conceived by Fondazione Cariplo. It is now a reference point for the promotion of the sector, the facilitation of projects and the monitoring of their quality. Mr. Gerevini is currently also member of the board of Fondazione Social Venture Giordano Dell’Amore, created by Fondazione Cariplo with the mission to support the diffusion of an impact investing culture and market in Italy. Until 2012, Mr. Gerevini was in charge of the Corporate Finance activity in Italy for Royal Bank of Scotland. Previous experiences in ABN AMRO Bank, SBC Warburg and Chase Manhattan Bank.
Riccarda Zezza
Riccarda Zezza is the CEO of Life Based Value, the EdTech start-up that provides companies with a digitalplatform that unlocks the learning potential of employees’ life experiences. The solution, chosen by companies such as Accenture, Coca Cola, Barilla and Schneider Electric, is accessible online and provides insightful data on the employees’ experience, the increase in their soft skills and the improvement in their engagement. In less than 4 years, Life Based Value has trained more than 7,000 people in 60 companies and has now started its international expansion.
Irene Mia
Irene is Global Editorial Director, Thought Leadership at the Economist Group. In her role, she is responsible for leading and growing the Thought Leadership business globally according to the Economist Group’s standards of editorial quality, creativity and independence. She also develops and oversees large global client relationships from an editorial perspective, delivering high quality content. She plays a key role in disseminating and presenting the Economist Group’s views and work to clients and other high-level audiences around the world. Previously, Irene was Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), where she provided intellectual and strategic leadership to the regional editorial team within the EIU’s Country Analysis division.
